About The DR5S Wood Bat:

The DR5S is another wood baseball bat that is the perfect transition bat for the young player moving from a youth bat to a bat with a full size barrel. It's the sister to the DR100, having the same barrel but a handle and knob much more like a metal bat.

At age 12-13, a hitter outgrows his/her K455, K240, or K271 wood youth bat. This is a result of physical size, league requirements and/or the speed of pitching the hitter now faces. Stick with a youth bat and the chance of breaking the bat increases greatly. Go to a full-size barrel too soon and your young hitter starts picking up bad habits (like dropping his/her shoulder and dragging the bat through the strike zone).

Enter the DR5S to save the day! It features a full-size barrel, of same diameter as our pro series BB71 and JK5 wood bats. This gets the hitter used to swinging a bigger barrel wood bat like they will have to swing no later than high school age. It's designed specifically as a transition bat, but still from the same quality wood we use for all our pro series bats. The DR5S wood bat comes in at only 2-3 ounces heavier than our youth bats, but still at least 2 ounces lighter than a pro series bat.

Per Little League rule 1.10, bats for Little League (majors) and below, shall be a smooth, rounded stick and made of wood or of material tested and proved acceptable to Little League standards. It shall not be more than 33 inches in length, not be more than two and one-quarter inches in diameter, and if wood, not less than fifteen-sixteenth inches in diameter (7/8 inch for bats less than 30 inches) at its smallest part.
In regard to the new USA Baseball bat standard: solid, one-piece wood bats that adhere to Little League’s regulations will be allowed for play with or without the USA Baseball mark (see Rule 27). So, if you have a Phoenix wood youth bat and play in any youth league, you are all set!

All Phoenix Bats youth wood bats meet or exceed USABat and Little League standards.

Typical user:

  • 12-13 yr old beginning move to full-size bat
  • Wants to get used to high school size barrel at weight for age that keeps up swing form
  • Likes handle/knob style like his metal bat
  • Needs bat to meet Little League & new USA Baseball standards

DR5S Wood Bat Stats:

  • Barrel: 2-1/2” well balanced and lighter barrel vs high school bat
  • Handle: 15/16” straight handle going into full knob to rest hand on
  • Knob: Knob sets it apart vs DR100
  • Weight: -5 drop (length - 5 = weight)

    New Wood Bat

This is a nice quality bat. It was suggested by my son's batting coach. I am in manufacturing, and I can say that this is high quality and will purchase more in the future. I originally called regarding sizes and weights. We went in to the showroom to check them out. The Staff was overly helpful, and helped my son pick a great fit. He loves how it feels and hits.

This bat was customized to my team's colors and includes our team name. The team will use the bat in a wood bat tournament. Very friendly staff. Easy and affordable. And of course, a great bat!

We purchased this bat after my son was slumping after a 4 wk injury. He has been able to recover his swing, hit with power, and turn fast enough on the ball to get some opposite field hits. This bat has great pop! The customization was excellently done. We even rushed the order, the bat was on time and pretty.

    Great Bat

Bought my son his first wood bat to use off the tee and in the cages during off-season. Only used a few times so far but he really likes the feel and the weight seems correct for his age. Looked at all the other brands but really liked that this bat was truly meant for a young player transitioning to Jr. High and High School ball. With only a few swings, it’s been a great bat and value.

I purchased this bat for my son for Christmas. He loves the feel of it. He has hit off a tee only. He cannot wait to use it outdoors. Great looking bat!

    Great wood youth bat

Got this for my 13-year old son, to get used to a -5 weight. He loves it, and the sound of a ball coming off a quality wood bat when the ball is hit well? Nothing like it.

    Phoenix Bats

For over 2 years the Phoenix Bat has been a staple in our dugout for woodbat tournaments and rec games. And it will continue to be a part of hitting regiment in practice.
Quality and longevity is the main reason I provide young players with Phoenix wood bats.
I find it important as an instructor to teach young hitters about equipment while learning hitting fundamentals.
The Phoenix Bat is the perfect tool to accompany any hitting instructor’s attempt to help young players understand that swinging the latest aluminum or composite “hot bat” is much more effective once they learn to strike the ball properly.
Phoenix Bats is a great choice for ball players of all ages looking for a quality stick to assist in their goals of growing as a hitter.
