Our Story   |   Our Differences   |   Wood Types   |   Testimonials

When our mills tell us we are the pickiest of the bat manufacturers -rejecting wood others will accept - we take it as a badge of honor.
Phoenix Bats is proud to offer the finest quality Rock Maple and Northern White Ash bats. All bats are available in either wood type. But, due to weight and/or dimension requirements, we make certain bats in one wood type versus the other, unless requested otherwise. Please see the chart below as a general guideline.

Maple Ash
Professional Series
Softball bats (except bottle bat)
Youth bats
Vintage bats
Fungos
Trophy/presentation

Regardless of the wood and model selected, we're confident you'll see…and feel…the difference.

  ROCK MAPLE NORTHERN WHITE ASH
"Solidness" of wood: Stronger - not much "give" Less dense - more flex
Grains: Less visible (engraves better) Straight and oval shaped
Air pockets around grain
Pros: More pop for bigger hits
Looks nicer finished
Used by more pros
More forgiving if don't know sweet spot
Less expensive
Better choice if starting to swing wood
Cons: More expensive Less pop
A rule of thumb if you tend to take pitches off the barrel end or the handle:

If you tend to take the ball off the end of the bat, go with an ash bat If you get jammed often (hitting the ball off the handle), go with a maple bat
